I'm celebrating my birthday at the diner
of the Red Lion casino in Elko, Nevada
My three best friends are with me
I met them in the line at the cashier counter
I said today's my birthday and they threw their arms around me
Now we're drinking more than coffee
And the slots are spinning and flashing and ringing
And nobody's winning but me
It's my birthday and I'm happy
They asked the waitress to bring me a slice of pie
When I wasn't looking, with a candle in it
And they're singing to me , cigarette smoke rising
I close my eyes and wish and take a breath
And blow out the candles and everybody's clapping
Even the loner at the counter
And the slots are spinning...
They're asking what I wished but I ain't talkin'
I'm just grinning, so they each give me a quarter
And make me swear I'll split it if I hit it
And the slots are spinning...
